Senior Emergency Management Coordinator

Lead high-level emergency preparedness, response, and disaster recovery efforts that protect communities throughout Los Angeles County. This position supervises emergency management professionals and coordinates complex Countywide planning, training, response, and recovery operations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise emergency management coordinators responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive emergency and disaster plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Direct emergency and disaster response activities from the County Emergency Operations Center or a Field Incident Command Post.
  • Develop and implement complex Countywide emergency management policies, procedures, and operational plans.
  • Advise executive management on emergency preparedness, disaster response, mitigation, and recovery issues.
  • Analyze emergency planning data and prepare recommendations, technical plans, reports, and other materials for executive leadership.
  • Organize and lead disaster recovery operations and Recovery Operational Area Coordination Meetings.
  • Represent the Office of Emergency Management in meetings with department leaders, community partners, government agencies, and elected officials.
  • Oversee duty officer activities supporting the County’s response to large-scale emergencies and disasters.

Requirements

Minimum requirements — must meet one of the following options:

  • Master’s degree in Homeland Security or Emergency Management and three years of progressively responsible professional emergency management experience, including two years in a lead or supervisory capacity;
  • Bachelor’s degree and five years of progressively responsible professional emergency management experience, including two years in a lead or supervisory capacity;
  • Seven years of professional experience in emergency management, emergency response, disaster recovery, or disaster preparedness, including two years in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Applicants must also provide certificates of completion for the required FEMA Independent Study courses:

  • Current certificates for IS-100.C, IS-120.C, IS-200.C, IS-230.E, IS-235.C, IS-240.C, IS-241.C, IS-242.C, IS-244.B, IS-700.B, and IS-800.D must be submitted with the application or within seven calendar days.

A valid California Class C Driver License, or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation to perform essential job duties, is required.
