About the role
The Buildings team at Stantec is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join our professional consulting team. This role involves working on projects of high complexity and serving as a leader of a team or project throughout all phases of a project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Work on projects of various sizes and complexities, leading a team of electrical engineers and designers.
- Supervise staff to develop their skills and career goals.
- Lead client meetings to establish design criteria, review design progress, and support through construction administration.
- Select and engineer all electrical systems and products for a project.
- Prepare and review documentation in various project phases, including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owners, contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
- Develop new standards and specifications for the electrical engineering group, along with a team of other electrical engineers.
- Perform field work to review existing facility conditions and review work being performed by contractors.
- Apply technical expertise to meet project requirements within established timeframes and budget.
- Provide client consultation and support new project proposals by developing scope, design budgets, and design approach.
- Nurture existing client relationships and proactively pursue new business opportunities.
- Train staff on applicable knowledge of electrical / building codes, field work, and the processes associated with designing electrical systems.
- Maintain current knowledge of technologies and trends, as they apply to the applicable project and market types, and continually strengthen skills.
- Implement sustainable design principles into the building design and surrounding environment.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas effectively.
- Experience in the construction industry and/or in-depth knowledge of construction processes, including construction administration roles.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as NFPA Standards, International Building Codes, and Applicable Energy Codes.
- Ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.
- Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines at the conceptual and/or schematic programming design phase.
- Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead multiple overlapping projects and design teams while maintaining project execution excellence and schedule.
- Ability to recognize and address technical problems.
- Ability to check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Ability to give direction and feedback to senior and junior engineers and designers.
- Ability to lead collaboration in a project team setting and engage in creative and critical thought.
- Ability to develop sketches, drawings, building programs, and other similar materials for use by junior engineers and designers.
- Ability to produce calculations based on project specific parameters, such as load calculations, short circuit studies, and lighting calculations.
- Ability to produce reports and studies as well as interpret the findings of reports or studies prepared by others.
- Ability to produce project specific technical specifications independently from an industry or office standard master specification.
- Participate and provide insight into project planning and budgeting with other disciplines and project leaders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical or Architectural Engineering with a lighting/electrical emphasis required.
- Minimum 15 years in related professional experience.
- Professional Engineering license required.
- LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.
