Responsibilities

  • Work on projects of high complexity, contributing to the conceptualization and development of full documentation for new construction and renovation projects across various facility types.
  • Supervise a team of electrical engineers and designers, guiding their development and career goals.
  • Lead client meetings to establish design criteria, review progress, and support through construction administration.
  • Select and engineer all electrical systems and products for projects, coordinating with project specifications and construction documents.
  • Develop designs through sketches, engineering calculations, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats, preparing and reviewing documentation in various project phases.
  • Conduct quality assurance and control on own projects and those of peers, leading in the development of new standards and specifications.
  • Perform field work to review existing facility conditions and contractors’ work, applying sustainable design principles.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional resources to meet project requirements within established timelines and budgets, providing client consultation and support.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technologies and trends, and continuously improve skills.
  • Engage in creative and critical thought, leading project coordination meetings and fostering a collaborative team environment.

Requirements

Strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas effectively.Strong understanding and knowledge of power distribution systems, lighting systems, and low voltage systems for the built environment.Experience in the construction industry and/or in-depth knowledge of construction processes, including construction administration roles.Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.Ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines at the conceptual and/or schematic programming design phase.Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as NFPA Standards, International Building Codes and Applicable Energy Codes.Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to lead multiple overlapping projects and design teams while maintaining project execution excellence and schedule.Ability to recognize and address technical problems, manage time effectively, and provide feedback and suggestions to junior engineers and designers.Ability to lead collaboration in a project team setting and engage in creative and critical thought.Ability to develop sketches, drawings, building programs, and other materials for use by junior engineers and designers.Ability to produce calculations based on project-specific parameters, such as load calculations, short circuit studies, and lighting calculations.Ability to produce reports and studies as well as interpret the findings of reports or studies prepared by others.Ability to produce project-specific technical specifications independently from an industry or office standard master specification.Ability to participate in and provide insight into project planning and budgeting with other disciplines and project leaders.Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD, and the use of these tools as a drafting/design tool.Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.Experience with AGI 32, SKM, Newforma is advantageous.Working knowledge of low voltage systems such as telecommunications, security, and fire alarm is advantageous but not required.Experience in healthcare, laboratory, and industrial facilities is advantageous but not required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical or Architectural Engineering with a lighting/electrical emphasis required.
  • Minimum 15 years in related professional experience.
  • Professional Engineering license required.
  • LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.
