Responsibilities
- Work on projects of high complexity, contributing to the conceptualization and development of full documentation for new construction and renovation projects across various facility types such as healthcare, commercial offices, higher education, research laboratories, and industrial facilities.
- Supervise a team of electrical engineers and designers to develop their skills and achieve career goals.
- Lead client meetings to establish design criteria, review project progress, and support through construction administration.
- Select and engineer all electrical systems and products for a project, and prepare and coordinate project specifications with construction documents.
- Develop designs through sketches, engineering calculations, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats, and prepare and review documentation in various project phases.
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and external consultants, owners, contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and those of peers, and lead in the development of new standards and specifications for the electrical engineering group.
- Perform field work to review existing facility conditions and review work being performed by contractors.
- Apply technical expertise to meet project requirements within established timeframes and budget, and provide client consultation.
- Nurture existing client relationships and pursue new business opportunities by supporting new project proposals.
- Train junior engineers and designers on applicable knowledge of electrical and building codes, field work, and designing electrical systems.
- Maintain current knowledge of technologies and trends relevant to the project and market types, and continuously improve skills.
- Implement sustainable design principles into the building design and surrounding environment.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas effectively.
- Experience in the construction industry and/or in-depth knowledge of construction processes, including construction administration roles.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as NFPA Standards, International Building Codes, and Applicable Energy Codes.
- Ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.
- Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines at the conceptual and/or schematic programming design phase.
- Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead multiple overlapping projects and design teams while maintaining project execution excellence and schedule.
- Ability to recognize and address technical problems appropriately.
- Ability to check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Ability to give direction and feedback to senior and junior engineers and designers.
- Ability to lead collaboration in a project team setting and engage in creative and critical thought.
- Ability to develop sketches, drawings, building programs, and other similar materials for use by junior engineers and designers.
- Ability to produce calculations based on project specific parameters, such as load calculations, short circuit studies, and lighting calculations.
- Ability to produce reports and studies as well as interpret the findings of reports or studies prepared by others.
- Ability to produce project specific technical specifications independently from an industry or office standard master specification.
- Participate in and provide insight into project planning and budgeting with other disciplines and project leaders.
Skills
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD as a drafting/design tool.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with AGI 32, SKM, and Newforma.
- Knowledge of low voltage systems such as telecommunications, security, and fire alarm.
- Experience in healthcare, laboratory, and industrial facilities.
