Responsibilities

  • Work on projects of high complexity, contributing to the conceptualization and development of full documentation for new construction and renovation projects across various facility types such as healthcare, commercial offices, higher education, research laboratories, and industrial facilities.
  • Supervise a team of electrical engineers and designers, guiding their development and career goals.
  • Lead client meetings to establish design criteria, review design progress, and support through construction administration.
  • Select and engineer all electrical systems and products for a project, preparing and coordinating project specifications with construction documents.
  • Develop designs through sketches, engineering calculations, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats, preparing and reviewing documentation in various project phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
  • Coordinate project meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owners, contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and those of peers, leading the development of new standards and specifications for the electrical engineering group.
  • Perform field work to review existing facility conditions and review work being performed by contractors.
  • Apply technical expertise to meet project requirements within established timeframes and budget, providing client consultation and support for new project proposals.
  • Support staff in developing sketches, drawings, building programs, and other materials, and produce calculations based on project-specific parameters.
  • Participate in project planning and budgeting with other disciplines and project leaders, producing project-specific technical specifications independently from industry or office standard master specifications.
  • Implement sustainable design principles into building design and the surrounding environment.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas effectively.
  • Experience in the construction industry and/or in-depth knowledge of construction processes, including construction administration roles.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as NFPA Standards, International Building Codes, and Applicable Energy Codes.
  • Ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.
  • Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines at the conceptual and/or schematic programming design phase.
  • Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead multiple overlapping projects and design teams while maintaining project execution excellence and schedule.
  • Ability to recognize and address technical problems, initiate appropriate corrective actions, and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to give direction and feedback to senior and junior engineers and designers, and engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to develop sketches, drawings, building programs, and other similar material for use by junior engineers and designers.
  • Ability to produce calculations based on project-specific parameters, such as load calculations, short circuit studies, and lighting calculations.
  • Ability to produce reports and studies as well as interpret the findings of reports or studies prepared by others.
  • Ability to produce project-specific technical specifications independently from an industry or office standard master specification.
  • Experience in healthcare, laboratory, and industrial facilities is advantageous but not required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical or Architectural Engineering with a lighting/electrical emphasis required.
  • Minimum 15 years of related professional experience.
  • Professional Engineering license required.
  • LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.

Skills
