About the role
The Senior Development Project Engineer (Data Center Construction) plays a crucial role in the design, preconstruction, and construction phases of various projects. This position involves interacting regularly with Facilities, Contractors, Designers, Engineers, Commissioning Agents, Vendors, and Data Center Operations & Corporate real estate staff.
Responsibilities
- Aid Development leadership and Project Manager with day-to-day activities and responsibilities
- Assist with multiple projects on a campus(es) and maintain updated budgets, schedules, and status reports for each
- Prepare updates on development program & project status for executive level reviews
- Collaborate with QTS stakeholders, design, and construction teams to develop master development programs for sites, including comprehensive campus designs and capital budgets
- Handle entitlement and permitting needs for each assigned site project(s)
- Manage scopes of work for design, construction, commissioning services, and participate in procurement and project cost estimates
- Coordinate submittals with site stakeholders
- Monitor project budget / cost-to-date against overall project budget, review project schedules, and ensure on-time completion
- Negotiate change order requests from contractors and manage teams to meet deadlines
- Create and maintain site construction security procedures in collaboration with the site security team
- Build and maintain relationships to enhance QTS’s leadership in creating the World’s Most Valuable Data Center Real Estate
- Aid in due diligence efforts on as-needed basis by participating in real estate efforts on potential or new land banks and properties, including evaluating opportunities to design & build new data centers
- Establish and monitor entitlement and permit processes for individual projects as needed
- Support internal development team in enhancing project management processes and protocols
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management field or equivalent professional experience
- Five or more years of professional experience in commercial construction practices and procedures, including management of Lump Sum, Construction Management @ Risk, and Design Build project delivery methods from conceptual development through procurement to close out
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite, specifically PowerPoint for use in communicating program updates to executive level, and Excel to create and maintain site program & individual project budgets
- US Citizenship required due to federal customer contracts

- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Skills and Abilities
- Prior experience in mission critical data center facilities
- Knowledge and experience with management of MEP trades
