Senior Developer Advocate, Developer Education
About Us
Temporal is an open source programming model designed to simplify code, enhance application reliability, and empower developers to deliver features faster. Our mission is to serve as the reliable foundation of every developer’s toolbox and we are assembling a team dedicated to achieving this goal. Our values guide our actions—curiosity, drive, collaboration, genuineness, and humility—and we seek individuals who embody these principles.
Summary
Durable execution fundamentally changes how you build software, making applications reliable by default. However, it represents a significant shift in thinking, prompting many developers to question it. Developer Education aims to address these queries by guiding developers from their initial "what is this?" to successfully deploying production-grade Temporal applications. We approach education as a strategic, resource-intensive endeavor to genuinely impact the industry. As a Senior Developer Advocate, you'll contribute to shaping the learning platform and the overall educational experience, not just the content.
What You'll Do
- Shape the education platform and learning experience, focusing on the platform itself rather than just the content
- Create exercise-first courses, tutorials, and labs centered around working, hands-on examples, incorporating video, guides, and learning paths
- Develop video education content, including comprehensive walkthroughs and concise "aha moment" clips
- Build hands-on AI and agent content, showcasing how Temporal supports reliable AI systems
- Design learning experiences that align with modern developer workflows, including AI-assisted, hybrid, and interactive formats
- Develop and maintain reference implementations, labs, and best-practice examples for common developer and enterprise scenarios, in multiple Temporal SDK languages
- Occasionally represent education in person, participating in conferences, events, and customer trainings
- Collaborate with enterprise-facing teams to create reusable educational assets, such as workshops, deep dives, and enablement material
- Collect and share developer feedback from various channels and use it to inform education strategy and product direction
What You'll Bring
- A strong software engineering background with the ability to build production-quality, real-world examples in at least one of Temporal’s primary SDK languages (Go, Java, TypeScript, Python, or .NET)
- A solid understanding of distributed systems fundamentals, including state management, fault tolerance, concurrency, and event-driven architectures
- Experience creating high-quality technical education content for developer audiences
- A clear, pragmatic communication style, both written and verbal, suitable for technical and mixed audiences
- The ability to tell stories through technical narratives and lead complex concepts to clarity
- The capacity to take ownership of projects, drive them forward with minimal direction, and iterate based on feedback
- A product and program-level mindset, considering the broader learner experience and the platform as a whole
- The willingness to travel occasionally for conferences, events, and team offsites
Nice to Have
- Experience with Temporal or another workflow orchestration system
- Background in developer education, developer relations, or technical enablement
- Open source contributions, particularly in developer tooling, distributed systems, or related areas
- Experience building Large Language Model (LLM)-powered applications or AI agents, and a grasp of the reliability challenges they face at scale
- Experience with a learning management system (LMS) or building an education platform
- Experience working in a remote-first, globally distributed company
