Senior Counsel Construction In-House (Permanent)

Position Summary

This is a senior level attorney role, requiring one who can work independently and with a highly cohesive and collaborative team handling major business for construction, project support and other generalist and business matters of the company. This attorney will work frequently with senior leadership from the main office in San Antonio, Texas. Occasional travel to job sites will be needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary legal counsel on construction and project-related matters, including contract review, risk assessment, and dispute avoidance/resolution
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including construction agreements, subcontracts, vendor and supplier agreements, and other commercial contracts
  • Advises business leadership and operational teams on legal risks associated with construction projects, bids, change orders, claims, liens, bonds, and insurance
  • Supports employment-related legal matters, including policy review and compliance guidance
  • Affords assistance with real estate matters relevant to construction, materials, and hospitality operations (e.g., leases, easements, property acquisitions)
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with operations, finance, HR, and executive teams
  • Manages outside counsel
  • Stays current on relevant construction law, regulatory changes, and industry best practices

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of construction and transactional practice with top law firm or similar company
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills
  • Working knowledge of corporate, employment, and real estate law sufficient to handle general business matters
  • Active Bar license, Texas preferred, but will relocate a top candidate

  • Compensation: The salary range for this role is $220,000 - $250,000 plus bonus. Pay is based on multiple factors including but not limited to work experience, qualifications, and credentials.
