Position Overview
The Coordinator of Health Services is a district-level nursing leadership position responsible for supporting the health and safety of students and staff and overseeing district health-related initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Collaboration with community health partners for the purpose of studying student health, illness, disease prevention, and risk mitigation.
- Plans and coordinates all clinical aspects of school health services for the purpose of providing adequate health resources for the care of students.
- Researches a variety of information (e.g. best practices, etc.) for the purpose of guiding the development of new Health Services procedures and/or programs.
- Lead for district-wide homebound services in collaboration with building nurses, counselors, administrators, social workers and outside providers.
- Lead for Title IV grant application process.
- Health and safety trainings for both nurses and district staff (CPR, Stop the Bleed, First Aid).
- Liaison for Adolescent Resource Center (ARC).
- Participate in School Risk Management (SRM) planning, drills, and implementation.
- Facilitates a variety of meetings, workshops and seminars, and interdisciplinary teams for the purpose of gathering, conveying and/or sharing information on students' health needs, service delivery, educational programs and staff health needs including improving skills or knowledge.
- Manage nursing schedules for substitute placement in collaboration with the district substitute scheduler, and work with Human Resources and outside nursing agency vendors to ensure that quality nurses are available in the absence of the school nurse.
- Work collaboratively with the special education department to arrange nursing coverage and staff training for community based instruction and trips.
- Works collaboratively with the Summer Program coordinator in order to support student health needs, staff training, and manage nursing coverage.
- Works collaboratively with the Christiana Care Health Systems (CCHS) Student Based Health Centers (SBHC) and other CCHS staff for the purposes of supporting student wellness and overall functions of the SBHC within the school building.
- Works collaboratively with Delaware Department of Public Health, Dental Services to support our in district dental clinics.
- Oversight of the Comprehensive Induction Program (C.I.P) and manage all year 3 and 4 nurses for completion of requirements.
- Coordinates with district departments (e.g. Special Services, Nutrition Services, Human Resources, Custodial, Transportation, Technology, Maintenance, Administration etc.) for the purpose of identifying potential health issues and providing preventative information to protect and promote student health.
- Compiles and analyzes health service data (e.g. policies, procedures, quality assurance reviews, immunization reports, end of year health services reports etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, complying with professional standards and regulatory requirements, and ensuring quality and effectiveness of nursing care.
- Serves as a member of school teams as needed (504, IEP, crisis response, etc.).
- Afford assistance with workers' compensation processes and submissions as needed.
- Coordinate onboarding for new nursing staff and substitute nurses.
- Reports health and safety issues to administration and appropriate agencies (e.g. superintendent, principals, staff, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students' personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
- National School Nurse Certification preferred
- Delaware Certification as a School Nurse
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, staff, and community stakeholders
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Must be proficient in the use of computer software
- Current BLS certification and instructor certification
