Senior Case Manager - Queens Community Program

Responsibilities

  • Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients.
  • Conduct client-centered safety assessment and risk management planning.
  • Provide crisis intervention and direct assistance to victims of crime and abuse; develop creative solutions reflecting clients’ unique needs in collaboration with client.
  • Advocate for clients for public entitlements with systems and other agencies, where necessary, such as obtaining orders of protection, help with hospital/medical related needs, Office of Victims Services compensation, and relocation assistance.
  • Provide information and referrals and facilitate linkages for clients for services such as shelters, mental health treatment, public assistance and other entitlements based on assessment and clients’ needs.
  • Assess for and provide emergency practical assistance for clients including transportation, food vouchers, financial assistance and lock replacement in accordance with agency policy.
  • Engage in regular supervision meetings with supervisors to review cases, reflect on client interaction and build skills.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate case records and statistics in web-based case management system.
  • Collect client data, test new interventions and track outcome.
  • Participate in staff meetings, individual and group supervision, community meetings and relevant trainings and seminars.
  • Conduct educational presentations and trainings and participate in outreach events for community groups about intimate partner and family violence, victim assistance resources and other related topics.
  • Work collaboratively with other Safe Horizon programs to facilitate linkages for clients.
  • Various other duties to be determined by supervisor.

Interacts with: Safe Horizon staff, District Attorney’s Office, NYPD, Office of Victim Services, ACS, NYCHA and Section 8 staff, and other social service providers.

  • Must be sensitive towards and understanding of victimization.
  • Must be able to demonstrate respect, compassion and a non-judgmental approach to victims of crime and abuse.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and be resourceful.
  • Must demonstrate leadership skills (acts as a “go-to” person for colleagues, takes initiative; suggests ways to make processes work better).

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work under pressure in a calm and reassuring manner.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field (Social Work, Psychology, Human Services etc.) or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • At least one year of prior direct service experience in a social service setting is required.
  • Experience working with survivors of intimate partner and family violence and other victims of crime preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish, French, Chinese, Arabic, Korean) preferred.

Technology Statement

Applicants may be responsible for providing the equipment and tools they need to work remotely as required, such as access to a computer, internet service, and phone service. Safe Horizon will discuss potential solutions with candidates and may assist where needed and agreed to in advance.

Pay

$23.63 - 26.58 hourly
