Senior Business Analyst
About the role
Tantus, a Sikich Subsidiary, seeks a Senior Business Analyst to support a federal mission-critical application. The role requires a polished, professional consultant who can build customer confidence, translate complex business needs into clear and actionable requirements, and provide independent thought leadership.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior business analysis lead supporting a federal mission-critical application, acting as a trusted liaison between customer stakeholders, product owners, developers, testers, and project leadership.
- Engage customers with polished, professional communication; facilitate productive discussions, manage expectations, ask probing questions, and communicate recommendations clearly and confidently.
- Lead requirements elicitation through interviews, workshops, document reviews, process analysis, backlog refinement sessions, and working sessions with business and technical stakeholders.
- Analyze business processes, pain points, operational needs, and system impacts to define practical, customer-focused solutions that align with mission objectives and delivery constraints.
- Produce high-quality Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), functional requirements, process flows, use cases, user stories, acceptance criteria, decision logs, and supporting analysis artifacts.
- Write clear, complete, and testable Jira tickets, including well-structured epics, features, user stories, tasks, defects, acceptance criteria, dependencies, assumptions, and supporting context for delivery teams.
- Manage requirements throughout the lifecycle, including documentation, prioritization support, traceability, change control, clarification, validation, and alignment with approved scope.
- Apply independent thought leadership to identify gaps, risks, dependencies, and opportunities for process or system improvement; recommend options and guide stakeholders toward sound decisions.
- Translate business needs into actionable requirements for technical teams while ensuring the final solution remains understandable, usable, and valuable to customer stakeholders.
- Support Agile/Scrum delivery activities, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily coordination, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and ongoing refinement of requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Collaborate closely with QA and development teams to ensure requirements are testable, defects are clearly documented, and delivered functionality satisfies business intent.
- Flex across business analysis and testing responsibilities as project needs evolve, including test planning, test case development, functional testing, regression testing, Section 508 testing, user acceptance testing, and defect validation.
- Develop and maintain testing artifacts such as test plans, test scenarios, test cases, test reports, test metrics, defect reports, and Requirements Traceability Matrices.
- Support manual and automated testing processes and use testing tools such as Selenium, SortSite, SiteImprove, and JMeter, as appropriate.
- Use tools such as Jira, Team Foundation Server, Visio, and Axure to manage requirements, create mockups, model processes, track delivery progress, and support stakeholder alignment.
- Conduct business process re-engineering and workflow analysis to improve efficiency, reduce ambiguity, and support modernization of business and system processes.
- Operate with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple priorities, working under tight deadlines, and maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Rapidly develop subject matter expertise, earn customer trust, and communicate effectively with senior leadership, business users, technical teams, and cross-functional delivery partners.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal, written, analytical, consultative, and interpersonal skills, with a strong commitment to quality, professionalism, and customer service.
- Support related IT systems, software development lifecycle, software testing lifecycle, user support, and delivery activities as required.
Requirements
- Master’s degree and eleven (11) years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree and thirteen (13) years of relevant experience.
- Proven experience leading requirements elicitation, business process analysis, and creating high-quality BRDs, user stories, use cases, acceptance criteria, and traceability artifacts for complex IT projects.
- Strong ability to collaborate with customers, product owners, developers, QA teams, and senior leadership, facilitating workshops, managing expectations, and translating business needs into actionable technical requirements.
- Hands-on experience supporting Agile/Scrum teams, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, requirements management.
- Experience supporting the full software testing lifecycle, including test planning, test case development, functional/regression/UAT testing, defect management, and familiarity with tools such as Selenium, JMeter, SortSite, and SiteImprove.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze business processes, identify gaps and risks, recommend process improvements, and deliver customer-focused solutions that align with business objectives and system constraints.
- Proficiency with Jira, Visio, Microsoft Office Suite, and experience working across the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) with the ability to thrive in fast-paced, customer-facing Federal IT environments.
Qualifications

Pay
The salary range for this role is $110,000-$130,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
