Elmhurst Hospital Center (EHC) is the major tertiary care provider in the borough of Queens. The hospital is comprised of 545 beds and is a Level I Trauma Center, an Emergency Heart Care Station and a 911 Receiving Hospital. It is the premiere health care organization for key areas such as Surgery, Cardiology, Women's Health, Pediatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine, Renal and Mental Health Services.
Work Shifts
6:00am-2:00pm with rotating weekends and holidays
Duties & Responsibilities
- Purpose of Position: Under medical direction, performs work requiring a high degree of knowledge and skill in the operation and monitoring of bio-medical machines. Responsible for overall administration of bio-medical machine department in a large hospital or hospital center. Participates in research studies.
- Plans, organizes and directs operations of bio-medical machine department. Is responsible for administration and coordination of the service and maintenance of highest standards. Supervises technical and auxiliary staff assigned to various units and directs preparation of work schedules.
- Develops and formulates methods and procedures to govern operation of service. Conducts continuing evaluation of effectiveness and recommends and implements necessary changes. Exercises central control over inventory, requisitioning, delivery and distribution of supplies and equipment. Establishes guidelines for inspection, maintenance and repair of equipment and supplies. Evaluates effectiveness of equipment, and recommends and arranges for major replacements.
- Prepares budget request for personal service, equipment and supplies.
- Directs establishment and maintenance of system of records and reports.
- Participates in studies and research projects.
- Provides consultative and technical advice to professional and technical personnel.
- Keeps abreast of current technical literature and puts into use new procedures previously approved by proper authority.
- Participates in planning and organizing on-the-job training and special training programs for medical, nursing and technical staff assigned to service. Teaches selected subjects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Average of three years experience in the appropriate bio-medical technician field in an approved hospital or health facility.
- Average of four years experience in the appropriate bio-medical technician field in an approved hospital or health facility.
- A satisfactory equipment combination of education and experience.
- Certificates of qualification issued by the New York City Department of Health in the subspecialty of 29 (Ph blood gases) or specialty 28 (general clinical chemistry).
