About the role

This position leads the finance operations, reporting, billing support, contract compliance monitoring, and close support for global alliance arrangements. Responsibilities include managing royalty income and expense, R&D service revenue, milestone income and expense, contingent consideration from acquisitions, intercompany activity for alliance agreements, partner reporting, contract term compliance, and related alliance financial processes.

The role works cross-functionally with business development, FP&A, legal, R&D, regulatory affairs, commercial, tax, treasury, technical accounting, revenue accounting, general accounting, and international finance teams to provide financial and operational support for monthly closes, audits, forecasting, partner reporting, contract compliance, and management reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Book global royalty income from alliance agreements, prepare global royalty statements, and support calculations.
  • Monitor billing status and collections; provide status updates to business development.
  • Maintain global royalty income trackers and report timely to business partners and finance leadership.
  • Coordinate global booking of royalty expense, prepare and issue statements, support payment coordination, and resolve reporting discrepancies.
  • Maintain global royalty expense trackers and provide timely reporting.
  • Update and book quarterly valuation and tracking of contingent consideration from acquisitions with valuation specialists.
  • Monitor global finance-related contract term compliance, including reporting deadlines, payment terms, royalty provisions, milestone provisions, profit-share mechanics, audit rights, reimbursement requirements, and other contractual obligations; escalate issues to finance leadership and legal.
  • Coordinate R&D service revenue billings, milestone income and expense, and confirm milestone achievement with R&D, regulatory affairs, FP&A, and business development.
  • Coordinate intercompany transactions for international alliance agreements, including cross-border billings, allocations, settlements, supporting schedules, foreign currency considerations, and alignment with international finance teams, tax, and treasury.
  • Prepare robust SOX documentation for processes directly impacting the general ledger.
  • Handle ad hoc requests, such as financial modeling for business development opportunities, from finance leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics (required).
  • Master’s degree (MBA) (preferred).
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences in alliance finance, FP&A, revenue operations, business development finance, or finance roles supporting complex contracts.
  • SOX experience in a public company environment.

Skills

  • Experience with alliance agreements, license agreements, royalty arrangements, milestone arrangements, R&D service arrangements, contingent consideration, intercompany transactions, international agreements, partner reporting, deferred revenue support, related-party transactions, and audit-ready finance documentation.
  • Working knowledge of revenue-related business processes and information needed to support Accounting Operations, Technical Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, Tax, and external audit requirements.
  • Royalty income and expense tracking, booking support, statement preparation, and partner reporting.
  • R&D service revenue, milestone income, milestone expense, and partner billing coordination.
  • Contract interpretation and monitoring of finance-related contract compliance.
  • Contingent consideration valuation support, including coordination of assumptions, forecasts, and documentation.
  • Intercompany transaction coordination, including international alliance arrangements and cross-border finance processes.
  • Financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, and management reporting.
  • Cross-functional business partnering with Accounting, Technical Accounting, FP&A, Legal, Business Development, Alliance Management, R&D, Regulatory, Treasury, Tax, and international finance teams.
  • Close, audit support, documentation, and controllership mindset.
  • Proficiency in Excel, ERP, planning, reporting, and contract management tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with finance and non-finance stakeholders.

Pay

The base salary for this position ranges from $150,000 to $170,000 per year. The role also includes a short-term incentive opportunity, such as a bonus or performance-based award, within the first 12 months. Individual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, geographic location, and other relevant skills.
