About the role

Airbus Helicopters is seeking a Senior Aircraft Sheetmetal Technician to join their New Helicopter Completions team based in Columbus, MS. This is a temporary (contract) position with no specific time period but could be extended or shortened as needed. Contractors are employed by a 3rd party vendor and placed on assignment to Airbus in America.

Responsibilities

  • Read detailed plans and diagrams and inspect and measure parts prior to assembly, ensuring parts are free of defects and the correct size.
  • Install sheet metal parts and assemblies in aircraft, ensuring installations are secure without endangering aircraft structure or systems operations and functions.
  • Fit and assemble skins, frames, and other components. Perform tasks such as drilling, fitting, and riveting of sub-assemblies like tail booms and stabilizers.
  • Work with inspectors to run tests to confirm proper assembly of parts.

Requirements

  • Minimum of six (6) years related experience; some experience may be substituted for education normally acquired in the attainment of an A&P license or a degree directly related to aircraft sheet metal or composite.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and diagrams, and apply standard shop practices in the fabrication and repair modifications of aircraft structures and repairs.
  • Current Airframe or Powerplant license is a plus but not required.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Physical Requirements

  • Vision: Able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports, and engineering drawings. Daily.
  • Hearing: Able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on production floor including safety warnings or alarms. Daily.
  • Speaking: Able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications. Daily.
  • Equipment Operation: Able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts. Daily.
  • Carrying: Able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs. Daily.
  • Lifting: Able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs. Daily.
  • Pushing / Pulling: Able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools. Daily.
  • Sitting: Able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer. At least once a month.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: Able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving. Daily.
  • Standing: Able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor. Daily.
  • Travel: Able to travel independently and at short notice. 5%.
  • Walking: Able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces. Daily.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site.

Citizenship

Must be a US Person under ITAR definition (U.S. Citizen, green card holder, or person covered under our existing ITAR license).
