Security Officer 3
About the role
This position involves providing assistance and information to all patients, visitors, and staff. It also includes enforcing WVU Medicine policies and procedures to ensure a safe and secure environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintains consistent visibility and presence at assigned locations to provide information and directional resources.
- Responds to all patient, visitor, and staff requests for information/assistance in a caring, courteous manner.
- Provides physical assistance, wheelchair assistance, transport services, escort services, and room access to patients, visitors, and staff.
- Makes recommendations to management, staff, visitors, and patients to improve security and prevent accidents and crime.
- Reports suspicious situations, circumstances, incidents, and persons, according to system and department policy and procedures.
- Responds and provides assistance to patients, visitors, and staff during fire and disaster drills, animal control issues, transportation of valuables, and lost/found issues.
- Performs patient restraint as directed by clinical staff, and is capable of physical intervention when appropriate.
- Operates Hospital-owned vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
- Ensures safety and proper operating condition of vehicles by performing vehicle inspections, as outlined by departmental policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years of experience in the security field OR Associate’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, forensics, law or related field of study AND one (1) year experience in the security field.
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, forensics, law or related field of study AND 6 months experience in the security field.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Obtain certification in BLS or HeartSaver First Aid within 60 days of hire date.
- State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
- Successfully pass psychological evaluation.
- Completion of the training requirements for an armed security officer.
- Completion of all departmental Lethal Weapon Training and course work.
- Completion of AVADE Training Levels I - III.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited Federal, State, or Local Law Enforcement Academy.
- One (1) year experience in a healthcare security environment.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to perform effectively under often stressful situations.
- Good decision making and organizational skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to train Security Officers 1 & 2.
