Responsibilities

  • Perform security guard duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage, and espionage.
  • Enforce the security regulations of the installation.
  • Control access of vehicles and pedestrians to the installation.
  • Verify identification through use of identification cards, badges, biometrics, automated records, verbal questioning, and other means.
  • Admit persons, deny entry, or arrange for escorts as appropriate.
  • Conduct vehicle searches and inspections.
  • Conduct foot or vehicle patrol of perimeters, roadways, parking areas, and other high-traffic areas.
  • Act as a first responder in medical emergencies.
  • Carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield, and employ non-lethal ammunition if necessary.
  • Wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Operate government vehicles and maintain a valid state driver’s license.

Requirements

  • Obtain and maintain eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
  • Work shift hours that may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays; shift changes may be necessary.
  • Position may be designated as Mission Essential depending on location.
  • Overtime may be required, including emergency recall.
  • Undergo and pass annual medical exams assessing physical, emotional, and mental stability.
  • Comply with the Individual Reliability Program as outlined in Army Regulation (AR) 190-56.
  • Submit to mandatory, recurring urinalysis for drug testing.
  • Maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass initial qualification, and requalify semi-annually.
  • Successfully complete security guard training and maintain current certifications in CPR and First Aid.
  • Obtain and sustain state certification for operating National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
  • Obtain and maintain applicable certifications for operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Wear the prescribed Department of Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform in accordance with AR 190-56 and maintain a high standard of appearance and hygiene.
  • Must not have any medical condition that precludes wearing a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Qualifications

Open to US Citizens.

One year of specialized experience is required, which includes:

  • Working with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against hazards such as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or
  • Maintaining order and protecting life.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this position.

This position may be filled as a Term Appointment not to exceed two years, with possible extensions up to eight years with DoD approval.
