Security Guard

About the Role

Provides general security services to the campus and assists campus police officers with routine patrols and other security measures.

Responsibilities

• Patrols campus by foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle.
• Identifies and reports suspected crimes, accidents, or activities of a questionable/suspicious nature.
• Reports accidents involving persons or property, including probable cause, pursuing appropriate action, and informing proper authorities.
• Provides security for special events.
• Writes citations for parking violations.
• Provides direction and/or instruction to faculty, staff, and students in unusual or emergency situations.
• Participates in campus training for emergencies and for law enforcement officers.
• Monitors classrooms, offices, and buildings for safety and/or maintenance concerns.
• Maintains and utilizes security equipment.
• Maintains department records and prepares reports.
• May testify in court or during legal proceedings as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Tennessee driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior security or law enforcement experience.

Skills

• Ability to work in varying conditions, including indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
• Good customer service skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a wide range of faculty, staff, and student populations.
• Demonstrated self-restraint in challenging and/or difficult situations.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
• Ability to occasionally travel throughout the service area as needed.

Pay

$31,239.00 to $37,479.00 annually, depending on experience.

Schedule

37.5 hours per week. Shifts and campus assignments vary and are based on current need.
