About the Role

This is a Security Guard position at the GS-0085-5 level. The role involves performing protective duties under supervision to ensure the security and safety of facilities, personnel, and clients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform foot and vehicle patrols, inspections, and monitor security of areas, entrances, or buildings.
  • Coordinate information and responses to ensure consistency and conformance with program policies.
  • Explain or provide guidance on laws, regulations, policies, standards, or procedures to management, personnel, or clients.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide first aid if necessary.
  • Complete forms, documents, or routine reports.
  • Operate a government-owned or leased motor vehicle as an incidental duty (valid driver’s license required).

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must successfully complete a background security investigation and receive favorable adjudication.
  • Must serve a 2-year trial or 1-year probationary period.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered under the Military Selective Service Act.
  • Must obtain and maintain first aid certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) within 6 months of hire.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) requiring pre-employment and random drug testing.

Qualifications

Medical Requirements

  • Good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice.
  • Must have the capacity to perform essential functions without risk to self or others.
  • Reasonable accommodation will be considered for applicants with disabilities.

Specialized Experience

Applicants must have at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade level, including:

  • Work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization involving protection of property against hazards such as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass.
  • Maintaining order and protecting life.
  • Service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard performing guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.

Time-in-Grade Requirements

Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.
