Security Guard.

Responsibilities

• Perform security guard duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage, and espionage.
• Enforce the security regulations of the installation.
• Control access of vehicles and pedestrians to installation.
• Verify identification through use of identification cards, badges, biometrics automated records, verbal questioning, and other means.
• Admit persons, deny entry, or arrange for escorts, as appropriate.
• Conduct vehicle searches and inspections.
• Conduct foot or vehicle patrol of perimeters, roadways, parking, and other high-traffic areas.
• Act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
• Carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield, and employ non-lethal ammunition if necessary.
• Wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
• Operate a government vehicle.

Requirements

• Obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
• Undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional, and mental stability.
• Meet the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program in accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 190-56.
• Submit to mandatory command-directed urinalysis on a recurring basis (drug testing designated position).
• Maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56.
• Be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and qualify semi-annually thereafter.
• Successfully complete security guard training.
• Obtain and maintain current certifications in CPR techniques and First Aid.
• Obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
• Obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
• Wear the prescribed Department of Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform in accordance with AR 190-56 and maintain a high standard of appearance and hygiene.
• Not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
• Be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle and possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
• Meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Shift work is required, and a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency. The position may be designated as Mission Essential depending on location.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. If qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:

• Working with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against hazards such as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or
• Maintaining order and protecting life.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this job.
