This position is open to US citizens and may be filled as a Term Appointment not to exceed 13 months, with possible extensions up to eight years. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.

About the Role

This position is designated as "Mission Essential" and "Key," requiring the incumbent to report to work or remain at work during severe weather conditions, emergencies, or national mobilization to support mission operations. The role involves shift work, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and unscheduled overtime. The incumbent must be part of the installation's overall security response capability, including carrying and deploying riot batons, protective shields, and non-lethal ammunition if necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Vet incoming subjects to determine whether appropriate need for access exists.
  • Perform vehicle checks to ensure safe and secure access to the installation.
  • Render first aid in emergencies as warranted.
  • Alert appropriate officials of security violations.
  • Conduct random inspections in accordance with force protection requirements.
  • Provide authoritative guidance and information on security regulations and procedures.
  • Question suspicious persons to warn or detain as appropriate.
  • Exercise crowd control during events and/or demonstrations.
  • Maintain proficiency in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, including initial and semi-annual qualifications.
  • Complete and maintain certifications in security guard training, flight line driving, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Operate and maintain various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Wear and maintain the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform and personal protective equipment, including chemical protection masks, gloves, and aerosol irritants.
  • Maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT).
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Requirements

  • Obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, including a background investigation and credit check.
  • Successfully complete US Customs Certification training and maintain annual federal certification for performing Customs inspections on personnel and aircraft returning from overseas.
  • Certification in the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Subject to pre-employment and random drug testing, including testing based on reasonable suspicion or involvement in an on-duty accident.
  • Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons and pass initial and semi-annual qualifications.
  • Complete a pre-employment and annual physical examination.
  • Possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver’s License to operate vehicles.
  • Certification in the use of aerosol irritants and batons.
  • No medical conditions that preclude wearing a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Subject to the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban (Lautenberg Amendment), which prohibits individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence from possessing or accessing firearms or ammunition.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirement: one year of experience with federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organizations safeguarding personnel, information, and/or assets; recording visitor information and determining access authorization; protecting property against hazards such as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. This experience is typical of work performed at the GS-05 level in the federal service. Education may not substitute for experience in this role.
