Overview

Under general supervision, is responsible for institutional and related security work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. This is the entry-working class in the security guard sub-series.

Qualifications

• Education and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school; qualifying full-time law enforcement, security or related experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
• Necessary Special Qualifications: A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required for employment in some positions.

Responsibilities

• Performs various security activities such as paroling facilities, monitoring alarms, monitoring security systems, checking for safety hazards, and violations of laws and rules.
• Operates security equipment in the performance of security tasks such as two-way radios and other communication devices, patrol and other transportation vehicles.
• Controls the entrance and exit of individuals by checking for identity, purpose of visit, and authorization.
• Escorts individuals to ensure their safety as needed.
• Responds to calls and takes appropriate action to assist in emergency situations.
• Searhes for and apprehends missing or unauthorized individuals.
• Advises any security concerns to supervisor.
• Communicates with law enforcement agencies to exchange information and request assistance.
• Prepares and maintains various reports such as incident reports, vehicle citations, visitor logs, and personal property reports.

Other Requirements

• This classification of Security Guard 1 at MTMHI currently has an approved hiring rate of $2,436 monthly.
• This is an on-site position.
• This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be considered for this position.

Salary

Salary (Monthly): $2,135.00 - $3,195.00
Salary (Annually): $25,620.00 - $38,340.00

LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH & SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES, DAVIDSON COUNTY
This position is located at Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute. Please note that the available shift is 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
