Overview
Under general supervision, is responsible for institutional and related security work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required.
This is the entry-working class in the security guard sub-series.
Responsibilities
- Performs various security activities such as paroling facilities, monitoring alarms, monitoring security systems, checking for safety hazards, and violations of laws and rules.
- Operates security equipment in the performance of security tasks such as two-way radios and other communication devices, patrol and other transportation vehicles.
- Controls the entrance and exit of individuals by checking for identity, purpose of visit, and authorization.
- Escorts individuals to ensure their safety as needed.
- Responds to calls and takes appropriate action to assist in emergency situations.
- Searhes for and apprehends missing or unauthorized individuals.
- Advises any security concerns to supervisor.
- Communicates with law enforcement agencies to exchange information and request assistance.
- Prepares and maintains various reports such as incident reports, vehicle citations, visitor logs, and personal property reports.
Qualifications
- Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school; qualifying full-time law enforcement, security or related experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
- A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required for employment in some positions.
