Section Chief - Rheumatology

About the Role

The Department of Medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) is seeking a dynamic physician to serve as the Section Chief of Rheumatology. The new Section Chief will lead Rheumatology’s clinical and research operations, overseeing a diverse team of physicians and advanced practice providers to deliver state-of-the-art patient care, advance novel research, and train the next generation of rheumatology clinicians.

The Section Chief will manage both inpatient and outpatient services and uphold the tripartite academic mission of clinical care, education, and research. The role involves a mix of clinical, administrative, and research/education activities, tailored to the candidate’s background and interests.

The Section Chief is a key member of the Section leadership team, which includes the practice manager and nurse manager, and is responsible for the direction, operation, and management of the Section in alignment with the Department of Medicine, Dartmouth Health, and the Geisel School of Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of physicians and advanced practice providers in delivering high-quality, compassionate, and high-value clinical care.
• Oversee the operational, educational, and research missions of the Rheumatology Section.
• Serve as a physician role model in clinical care, teaching, and interprofessional collaboration.
• Advance the academic mission through research, mentorship, and education of learners at all levels.
• Foster a diverse, inclusive, and engaged team to optimize quality and efficiency in team-based services.
• Collaborate with the Department Chair and leadership team to align Section goals with broader organizational objectives.

Requirements

• Board certification in Rheumatology (ABIM or AOBIM).
• Current or eligible licensure in New Hampshire and Vermont.
• Experience overseeing a busy inpatient and outpatient rheumatology service.
• Qualification for appointment at the rank of Associate or Professor of Medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine.
• Experience as a leader in an academic medical center.
