About the role

The Position Bargaining Unit: Local 2700 - General Clerical Unit is a Secretary Advanced Level classification utilized in different departments across Contra Costa County. This position represents the highest working level in the Secretary series and involves providing administrative support to upper management, composing correspondence, developing and maintaining filing systems, following up on tasks, maintaining confidential information, scheduling meetings, and managing incoming mail.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to upper management
  • Compose correspondence, memoranda, and other written materials based on departmental activities
  • Develop and maintain filing and record systems unique to the assigned program
  • Follow up on behalf of the manager or Department to move tasks forward
  • Maintain and secure confidential information
  • Schedule meetings for the manager
  • Screen incoming mail, sorting, screening, and routing
  • Screen telephone calls and visitors, handling routine questions

Requirements

  • Education: Possession of a high school diploma, GED equivalency, or a high school proficiency certificate
  • Experience: Three (3) years of full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) secretarial or office clerical experience
  • Other Requirements: Ability to type at a net speed of not less than 40 words per minute from clear manuscript of printed or typewritten copy
