About the role

Cornell University’s Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy (Ithaca, NY) is seeking temporary, seasonal admissions readers for the 2026-2027 undergraduate admissions season.

Responsibilities

  • Trained by the Brooks Schools Admissions staff to evaluate applications to the undergraduate programs in Public Policy and Health Care Policy.
  • Evaluate applications to the undergraduate programs in Public Policy and Health Care Policy, including the review of high school transcripts, application essays, recommendation letters, and other application components.
  • Conduct a comprehensive review on an average of 3-4 applications per hour during regular decision.
  • Work remotely via Zoom/phone in late September for training and the duration of the reading period.
  • Partner with admissions staff for training and the duration of the reading period.
  • Serve as the initial readers of application files.
  • Ensure that admissions decision deadlines are met by reading quickly, carefully, and objectively while providing thorough notes.
  • All applications are read online.

Requirements

  • Absorb recent computer (preferably fewer than 5 years old) with a reliable, high-speed internet connection.
  • Have access to a private, secure location in which to work.
  • Be able to read quickly, carefully, and objectively while providing thorough notes.
  • Be able to internalize feedback and quickly adapt to suggested modifications.
  • Maintain the strictest levels of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Show multicultural awareness and respect for others’ rights, feelings, lifestyles, and diverse experiences.

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Well-developed computer skills and the ability to quickly adapt to new technology.
  • Strong ability to manage time independently.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Willingness and ability to apply institutional priorities in accordance with training.

Pay

Hourly Pay Rate: $21.00

Schedule

Minimum of 10 hours per week during the early admission period (October through December, as needed) and 20-25 per week during peak application review (January through the first week of April 2027).
