About the role

Cornell University’s Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy (Ithaca, NY) is seeking temporary, seasonal admissions readers for the 2026-2027 graduate admissions season.

Responsibilities

  • Trained by the Brooks Schools Admissions staff to evaluate applications to the graduate programs in Public Administration and Health Administration.
  • Evaluate applications to the graduate programs in Public Administration and Health Administration, including the review of college transcripts, application essays, recommendation letters, and other application components.
  • Conduct a comprehensive review on an average of 3-4 applications per hour.
  • Partners with admissions staff for training and for the duration of the reading period and serves as the initial reader of application files.
  • Ensure that admissions decision deadlines are met by reading quickly, carefully, and objectively while providing thorough notes.
  • Applications are read online.

Requirements

  • A recent computer (preferably fewer than 5 years old) with a reliable, high-speed internet connection.
  • A private, secure location in which to work.
  • Willingness and ability to apply institutional priorities in accordance with training.
  • Ability to internalize feedback and quickly adapt to suggested modifications.
  • Ability to maintain the strictest levels of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate multicultural awareness and respect for others’ rights, feelings, lifestyles, and diverse experiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Well-developed computer skills and the ability to quickly adapt to new technology.
  • Strong ability to manage time independently.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Willingness and ability to apply institutional priorities in accordance with training.
  • Ability to internalize feedback and quickly adapt to suggested modifications.
  • Ability to maintain the strictest levels of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate multicultural awareness and respect for others’ rights, feelings, lifestyles, and diverse experiences.

Skills

  • Prior experience in selective college admissions.
  • Experience handling a heavy workload and a track record of meeting deadlines.

Benefits

Hourly Pay Rate: $21.00

Schedule

  • Minimum commitment of 10 hours per week, October through December.
  • 20-25 hours per week during peak application review (January through April 2027).
