School Safety Guardian

About the role

This position is an armed School Safety Guardian at New Beginnings High School (NBHS), an innovative organization transforming education through academic and social support services. The mission is to create the best educational environment for students seeking a new beginning. The guardian ensures safety, security, and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Support NBHS by attending community service and outreach activities.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
• Use force to prevent or abate active assailant incidents.
• Conduct perimeter and inner school checks.
• Analyze and address violations of school policies.
• Collaborate with other school and district personnel, and law enforcement.
• Inform personnel and visitors about policies and procedures.
• Investigate unusual incidents.
• Maintain security in various school environments.
• Prepare and report security-related documentation.
• Respond to email communications.
• Recommend policies and procedures.
• Report observations and incidents.
• Operate surveillance technology and metal detectors.
• Participate in emergency drills and assist in emergencies.
• Assist with cleaning and sanitizing common areas.
• Provide excellent customer service.
• Support school Mission by assisting with home visits.
• Propose updates to the School Safety Guardian Reference & Procedures Manual.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Age 21 or older.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid Florida driver's license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance.
• Concealed weapons permit and maintain it throughout employment.
• Successfully complete ongoing trainings and firearm proficiency tests.
• Pass psychological evaluation and diversity training.
• Pass comprehensive employment background check, psychological evaluation, and drug screening.
• Hold and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s license during employment.
