About the role

The School Custodian III position involves directing the work of subordinates in providing custodial services for a school, assigning tasks, supervising maintenance work, and managing cleaning supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Directs work of subordinates in providing custodial services for a school
  • Assigns, lays out, inspects and supervises the work of subordinates to ensure buildings and grounds areas are kept clean and orderly
  • Performs more difficult maintenance work such as plumbing and electrical fixtures and woodwork not requiring journey worker level trade skills
  • Safeguards special school equipment like swimming pools, auditoriums, and loudspeaker systems
  • Supervises custodial staff in preparing for special school functions
  • Maintains records of supplies and equipment, and makes reports on work accomplished and unusual happenings or accidents
  • Keeps daily time sheets and turns "night lights" on/off at proper hours
  • Operates power equipment such as power lawn mowers
  • May supervise student help when assigned

Requirements

Minimum qualifications include two years of progressively responsible work experience in janitorial or related custodial work, grounds maintenance, and general laboring, with at least one year comparable to a School Custodian in the State service. Demonstrated supervisory aptitude is also required.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Experience must be in full-time, 40-hour workweeks, and part-time experience is pro-rated.

Skills

Knowledge of custodial and maintenance procedures, safety practices, and equipment operation is essential. Ability to manage a team and maintain a clean environment is required.

Benefits

Salary range: $4,849.00 per month. Includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable. Details on vacation, sick leave, health insurance, group life insurance, and other benefits are provided.

Pay

Payday is on the 5th and 20th (or previous business day) of every month. 12-month civil service and SSP employees enjoy a range of competitive benefits including holidays, vacation, sick leave, health insurance, and retirement plans.

Schedule

Hours are typically full-time, 40 hours per week, but part-time experience is pro-rated. Temporary assignment experience may be used to meet the minimum qualification requirements.
