School Custodian III - Aliiolani Elementary

About the role

The School Custodian III position involves directing the work of subordinates in providing custodial services for a school, assigning and supervising tasks, performing maintenance work, supervising custodial staff, managing supplies, and maintaining security.

Responsibilities

• Directs work of subordinates in providing custodial services for a school
• Assigns, lays out, inspects and supervises the work of subordinates to ensure buildings and grounds areas are kept clean and orderly
• Performs the more difficult maintenance work such as plumbing, electrical, and woodwork
• Supervises custodial staff in preparing for special school functions
• Supervises or participates in the propagation and cultivation of flowers, plants, and lawns
• Requisitions, receives, stores, and is responsible for janitorial supplies and equipment for the school assigned
• Maintains records of supplies dispensed and of equipment issued
• Makes reports on work accomplished and of unusual happenings or accidents
• Keeps daily time sheets
• Has security responsibility for the school
• Turns "night lights" on and off at proper hours
• May supervise student help when assigned
• May operate power equipment such as power lawn mowers
• May perform the typical duties of lower level custodians if necessary

Requirements

Applicants must have had the kind and quality of experience described below, and in the amounts shown in the following table:

• Class Title: School Custodian III
• General Experience: Two (2) years of work experience in janitorial or related custodial work, grounds maintenance work, and/or general laboring work
• Supervisory Experience: One (1) year of supervisory experience comparable in nature and scope to that of a School Custodian in the State service

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include:

• Two (2) years of work experience as described in the General Experience requirement
• One (1) year of the work experience must have been comparable in nature and scope to that of a School Custodian in the State service
• Demonstrated evidence of supervisory aptitude
