About the role

The School Custodian III position involves directing and supervising custodial services in maintaining clean and orderly conditions in school buildings and grounds. Key responsibilities include supervising staff, managing supplies, and performing various maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Directs work of subordinates in providing custodial services for a school
• Assigns, lays out, inspects and supervises the work of subordinates to ensure buildings and grounds areas are kept clean and orderly
• Performs more difficult maintenance work such as plumbing and electrical repairs, and woodwork
• Safeguards special school equipment like swimming pools, auditoriums, and loudspeaker systems
• Supervises or participates in the cultivation of flowers, plants, and lawns
• Manages janitorial supplies and equipment, taking inventories and reporting on work done
• Maintains security and operates night lighting
• Operates power equipment and performs lower-level custodial duties as needed

Requirements

Minimum qualifications include two years of progressively responsible work experience in janitorial/custodial, grounds maintenance, or general laboring roles, with at least one year comparable to a School Custodian in State service. Demonstrated supervisory aptitude is preferred.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all requirements as of the application date. Experience must be in full-time, 40-hour workweeks, with part-time experience pro-rated. Temporary assignment experience may be verified and attached to the application.

Skills

Knowledge of custodial and maintenance procedures, safety practices, and equipment operation. Ability to manage personnel and resources effectively.

Pay
