About the role

The School Custodian III position involves directing the work of subordinates in providing custodial services for a school, assigning and supervising tasks, performing maintenance work, supervising special events, managing equipment, maintaining grounds, and ensuring security.

Responsibilities

  • Directs work of subordinates in providing custodial services for a school
  • Assigns, lays out, inspects and supervises the work of subordinates to ensure buildings and grounds are clean and orderly
  • Performs the more difficult maintenance work, including plumbing and electrical fixtures, and woodwork not requiring journey worker level trade skills
  • Supervises custodial staff in preparing for special school functions
  • Supervises or participates in the propagation and cultivation of flowers, plants, and lawns
  • Requisitions, receives, stores, and is responsible for janitorial supplies and equipment for the school assigned, taking periodic inventories
  • Makes reports on work accomplished and of unusual happenings or accidents
  • Keeps daily time sheets
  • Has security responsibility for the school
  • Turns "night lights" on and off at proper hours
  • May supervise student help when assigned
  • Makes use of power equipment such as power lawn mowers
  • Makes use of typical duties of lower level custodians if necessary

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of work experience as described in the General Experience requirement
  • At least one (1) year of the work experience must have been comparable in nature and scope to that of a School Custodian in the State service
  • Demonstrated evidence of supervisory aptitude

Skills

General laboring experience such as moving materials, furniture and equipment; loading and unloading trucks; carrying, unloading and stacking tools and supplies for skilled craftsman; digging trenches and ditches.

Benefits

Salary: The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable.

Pay

Payday: New employees can expect their first paycheck within the first 3 pay periods of their start date. Payday is on the 5th and 20th (or previous business day) of every month.
