About the role
The YMCA's Youth Programs are expanding, and we're seeking dedicated staff to support our school-aged participants. We're looking for individuals who enjoy engaging in creative activities like construction paper and duct tape projects, helping with challenging homework, and leading games.
Responsibilities
- Implement YMCA core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring in a safe and engaging environment.
- Work as part of a team to ensure a safe and challenging atmosphere for school age participants.
- Teach gym and group games, arts and crafts, and other activities.
- Support participants with homework and academic challenges.
- Ensure participants are supervised and engaged during program hours.
- Communicate effectively with parents, youth, and colleagues.
- Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures, including safety and medical protocols.
- Maintain positive relationships with parents and other staff members.
- Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Be on time for all shifts and flexible to accommodate schedule changes.
Requirements
- A minimum of 16 years old.
- Commitment to being a positive role model with youth.
- Ability to work well on a team, communicate easily with youth, parents, and colleagues.
- Experience working with children, preferably school-aged.
- Maturity to make practical decisions under supervision.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate practices and experience working with children.
- Bilingual preferred, but not required.
Qualifications
- Must adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
- Maintain confidentiality of YMCA issues, incidents, and records.
Skills
- Positive attitude and enthusiasm for working with children.
- Effective communication skills.
- Teamwork and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to handle challenging situations with maturity and professionalism.

Pay
$15.16 - $17.00 /Hr.
Schedule
Shifts/Hours: Program hours are mornings 6:15am-8:30am and/or 3:00-6:00pm M-F, with additional hours available on days when school is out for full day camp. We prefer staff to be available at least 3 consistent days per week, but we are also looking for substitutes. You can choose to do just before school, just after school, or a combination.
