About the role

Phones Dispatchers answer all incoming 911 calls for Charlevoiq, Cheboygan and Emmet County. In 2022, over 144,000 phone calls came into the dispatch center through 911 and administration lines. This does not include any additional outgoing phone calls that are made for other requests.

Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) Dispatchers are responsible for monitoring numerous talkgroups on the Michigan Public Safety Communication System (MPSCS).

Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) Dispatchers are certified LEIN operators, and use the system regularly to assist Law Enforcement in their day-to-day operations including; traffic stops, license plate checks, warrant checks, stolen vehicles/items, and officer safety cautions.

Emergency Medical Dispatching The protocol is designed to send the most appropriate level of care to a patient needing medical assistance. Dispatchers ask a well-defined series of short questions, which will then determine a proper level of response for EMS providers and increase the safety of EMS personnel, as well as the general public.

Responsibilities

  • Answer all incoming 911 calls for Charlevoiq, Cheboygan and Emmet County
  • Use Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) to track and manage calls
  • Operate Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) to assist Law Enforcement
  • Implement Emergency Medical Dispatch protocols to ensure appropriate medical responses

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to pass a psychological evaluation
  • Ability to pass a physical exam, drug screen, and hearing test

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in typing 30 words per minute or higher
  • Knowledge of PC applications
  • Completion of all phases of training, including observation, computer aided dispatch (CAD), law enforcement information network (LEIN), 911 call taking and CAD entry, and shadow phase
  • Certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch
  • Certification in CPR
  • Certification in Michigan LEIN

Schedule

CCE 911 Central Dispatch Authority is a 24-hour operation, with 12-hour shifts. There is no guarantee on shift assignment or how long an employee will spend on a particular shift. Shifts and schedules are granted by seniority, which may be changed when departmental scheduling requires. Here are some typical shift times. Dispatcher 12-Hour Shifts Day: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Night: 7 p.m. – 7 a.m.
