Safety Manager I, II, or III (Renewables Construction - Site Based Nationwide Opportunities!)

About the Role
As a Renewables Safety Manager, you will participate in planning, organizing, and implementing the company’s Safety Program at construction projects while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and corporate environmental, health, and safety regulations. This is a traveling position (up to 100%) with an average of 8-12 months spent per project site. A vehicle will be provided, and routine travel home (rotation) from the jobsite is eligible. Designated daily per diem is offered in addition to base pay to support living expenses.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all aspects of the safety program on complex construction projects.
- Conduct workplace safety checks to identify infractions and initiate Stop Work Authority when necessary.
- Provide direction and guidance to onsite construction staff on corrective actions for safety infractions to eliminate hazards and mitigate future risk.
- Foster Safety Leadership, creating enthusiasm and participation among management and craft workers for excellent safety performance.
- Participate in the jobsite R4 Safety Committee, monitor results, and present findings to site management.
- Chair or assist in site safety committee and R4 meetings, review R4 documents, and present information to management.
- Attend weekly general safety meetings, supervisor’s safety meetings, and daily Gang box meetings.
- Communicate between the company and client management regarding safety matters.
- Input and review incident reports; monitor all site safety reports and maintain the site bulletin board for postings.
- Track, compile, and present leading indicator statistics to the project leadership team.
- Maintain jobsite first aid and emergency response supplies; administer drug and alcohol testing on site.
- Spend 60% of time in the field on job sites, identifying workplace safety hazards and guiding site management in corrective actions.
- Document actions on daily activity reports and implement the Zero Injury System of safety excellence.
- Understand and implement safety policies, procedures, and environmental permitting regulations to ensure compliance.
- Lead site inspections and testing, compile DFR in a timely fashion, and review safety program documentation.
- Participate in planning and implementing a Hazard Communication Program in compliance with federal, state, and company policies.
- Present safety emphasis topics to site employees and assist in emergency responses.
- Partner with management to write, organize, and implement job site safety plans.
- Work directly with the Project Manager and management team to develop, implement, and maintain an effective site-specific safety plan.
- Coordinate with the Safety Department on program needs, injury management, citation management, and OSHA/MSHA reporting requirements.
- Oversee the company injury management program, establish relationships with local physicians, and provide basic first aid training.
- Coordinate and present safety training to support company and client requirements (e.g., Fall Protection, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory).
- Invest time in enhancing apprentices’ skills and knowledge; champion the mentoring process.
- Provide a positive environment to support coaching and mentoring of apprentices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2-5 years of construction safety experience, with demonstrated ability to provide safety leadership to both management and craft workers.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred (required for Safety Manager III).
- CHST or other BCSP certification preferred; must obtain CHST within one year of position entry (Safety Manager I & II) or within six months (Safety Manager III).
- Functional computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong communication and report-writing skills with accuracy and proper grammar.
- Knowledge of MSHA/OSHA regulations, hazard recognition, record keeping, and injury management.
- CPR/First Aid Instructor certification and training experience.
- Commitment to working toward Professional certification (e.g., CHST, CMSP) within 6 months of starting the position.
- Ability to take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety, aligning with the company’s Zero Injury principles.
