Safety & Health Inspector, Brooklyn (NY HELPS)
Description Duties
- Plan, schedule, and conduct safety and health inspections of selected work sites such as state, county, city, and town offices.
- Inspections may be conducted at places of public assembly, ski areas, carnivals, fairs and amusement parks, explosives magazines, power scaffolds, and other window-washing operations.
- Work sites may include asbestos abatement projects.
- Inspect to assure conformance with established standards, identify unsafe conditions and work practices, and protect workers and the public.
- Travel for training purposes, not to exceed one week for state programs and two weeks for federal programs.

Additional Information
This position may require a fingerprint background check prior to appointment. Some positions may require a medical examination prior to appointment, and you will be responsible for the payment for the clinical laboratory test fee. Appointees to the positions that require this examination may also be required to undergo periodic medical examinations to reassess their ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
Position specific job duties may include occasional altered work schedule or job assignments which require availability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or out-stationed assignments.
Candidates with no previous state service will begin at the starting rate of the salary range listed above. Additional location pay is available for the following counties: Bronx, Kings, Nassau, NYC-Manhattan, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk; and Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, and Putnam.
