Safety & Health Administrator

Responsibilities

• Administers site specific respiratory, control of hazardous energy and confined space programs for bridges & tunnels and central maintenance.
• Conducts field and facility audits and inspections, reviews facility works plans and improvements for safety compliance.
• Conducts general inspections at all operations, maintenance and construction sites at the bridges and tunnels and reports findings and corrective actions.
• Acts as the facilitator for B&T Safety committee meetings and construction safety meetings.
• Affords assistance in Authority's Safety & Health, Lead and Asbestos programs.
• Investigates accidents, near misses and initiates investigation team initiatives in accordance with Agency Policy.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Environmental Science, Environmental & Occupational Health Science, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in field operations in heavy civil operations or construction safety.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of applications, particularly Excel.
• Ability to be on call 24/7 and report to any of MTA Bridges & Tunnels seven bridges and two tunnel locations/facilities as needed.
• Practical field operations experience in the areas of occupational exposure to lead and asbestos.
• The Safety & Health Administrator must be either a degreed safety professional or certified as a health or safety professional by nationally recognized accrediting agencies such as the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH), Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), Institute of Safety and Health Management (ISHM) or a Professional specializing in safety.
• A certified outreach safety trainer certification.
