About the role

Under general direction, the incumbent provides assistance and support to the school behavior team by delivering student intervention and supervision, completing data entry, and implementing and maintaining systems in place at the school.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance and support to the school behavior team in discipline matters, including student intervention, student supervision, and Synergy data entries.
  • Implements and delivers pertinent behavioral data to staff monthly.
  • Implements systems to assist Tier 3 level students and behaviors.
  • Participates in the school-wide mentoring program to assist Tier 3 level students.
  • Implements effective strategies and programs to improve school culture.
  • Acts as a liaison to district and school committees, including the Child Study team, PBIS team, Safety Team, and Climate team.
  • Builds positive educational and social relationships with administration, staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired.
  • Completion of 60 College Credit Hours, Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university, or successfully passed an Arizona State approved paraprofessional test (offered by WESD at no cost and must pass prior to being hired).
  • Six months of working with children in a learning environment or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in English and a target language.
  • Valid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

Skills

  • Demonstrating instructional and facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of child abuse reporting requirements, school discipline procedures, and intervention procedures.
  • Knowledge of special education laws and regulations, WESD Board policies (truancy, discipline, tardiness, etc.).
  • Understanding of child development theories and basic mathematical concepts.
  • Experience with typical classroom activities and positive influence techniques with children.
  • Ability to facilitate group activities in a learning environment and apply school rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with supervisors, staff, students, and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of organizational practices and ability to prioritize work activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication, as well as personal computer and related software use.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear.
  • Required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

The work environment is usually moderate in noise level.

Pay

$15.15 to $17.12 per hour.

Schedule

Full-time, non-exempt position.
