About the Role

The Monitor I - HSH works to provide security of the program premises and safety for program clients, visitors, and employees. Driving ability is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Shelter Security
    • Shelter Entrance Monitoring: Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, participants, visitors, guests, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises. The front door to the shelter is the only permitted entrance and exit.
    • Bag & Person Screening: Screen all participants’ persons and belongings being brought into the shelter each time a participant enters, ensuring safety and security while treating every participant with dignity and professionalism.
    • Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates; walk the facility and make reports as needed.
  • Shelter Safety
    • Observe the shelter to ensure safe operations; report and correct any spills, unsafe working conditions, or defective equipment.
    • Know the location of fire exits and be prepared to assist participants in case of emergency.
    • Monitor clients and conduct room checks; maintain records of client compliance with program rules, report to clinical/case management staff, and assist as required.
    • Call police or fire department in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Asset Protection
    • Report all suspicious events to a direct supervisor.
    • Complete written reports and incident logs of daily activities and irregularities, such as unusual occurrences, equipment or property damage, theft, and presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Client/Participant Support
    • Answer telephones, take messages for clients and staff, monitor doors, and greet visitors.
    • Maintain office housekeeping; verify all common areas, laundry areas, and restrooms are clean, disinfected, and fully operational.
    • Assist shelter staff during provision of services to clients/participants, including meal preparation/serving, monitoring and recording client self-administration of prescribed medication, and setting up for classes, meetings, recreation, and other program events.
  • Driving Tasks (for licensed Monitors)
    • Transport individual program participants to and from various locations such as human service locations, work sites, and medical facilities.
    • Assist passengers in securing wheelchairs, car seats, and other mobility devices.
    • Ensure safety of passengers and operate the vehicle safely at all times.
    • Maintain trip records as well as mileage and gasoline usage records.
    • Maintain the program vehicle in good operating condition, clean it after each use, and take it for routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Act as a role model for participants at all times, putting clients’/participants’ needs first and practicing professionalism.
  • Input required data into computer systems and logs.
  • Perform other duties that may arise to support the program mission and goals.
  • As a mandated reporter, report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to proper authorities.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment, and education verifications.
  • Within 30 days of hire, must successfully complete VOALA safety training.
  • Must timely complete all mandated training.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 6 months of experience working with homeless and/or vulnerable populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current California driver's license and clean driving record, demonstrated knowledge of CA driving laws.
  • Database familiarity.
  • Clean driving record to be insurable by VOALA insurance.

Pay

$19.02 - $20.02 per hour.
