About the role

Performs Monitor Technician duties and monitors patient’s cardiac rhythms under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Performs Health Unit Coordinator duties including medical record maintenance, order processing, typing, and/or word processing, and materials management functions on the nursing unit. Assists visitors, nursing staff, and members of the health care team. Assists in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment. Completes all other work related duties as assigned.

  • Possesses basic computer knowledge and knowledge of medical terminology
  • Organizational, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Flexible and able to work independently with minimal supervision and thrive on change
  • Ability to interact and communicate with people over the telephone and/or in person, often in stressful situations in a courteous manner
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of patient medical records and clinical documents
  • Skill in the use of Hospital computer systems related to ADT order entry, requisitions, lab inquiries and other computerized processes and related software/hardware applications
  • Knowledge of clinical procedures and operations
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment ordering and inventory control
  • Clerical, word processing and office skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions
  • Possesses effective oral and written communication skills
  • Possesses effective interpersonal relationship skills
  • Technically competent in tasks within the scope of practice of a nursing assistant and monitor tech
  • Ability to detect abnormal cardiac monitor tracings for adult and pediatric patients

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of the UMC dysrhythmia course within 6 months of being in the position required
  • Completion of the UMC HUC training program within 6 months of being in the position

Skills

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Work Experience

Health Unit Coordinator or Monitor Tech experience in a hospital setting preferred.

License/Registration/Certification

  • Current CPR training required
  • National Health Unit Coordinator certification preferred
