Responsibilities
- Provide positive safety leadership; review field operations and ensure a safe workplace.
- Support management of concrete paving staff and equipment resources.
- Direct and coordinate activities of personnel to ensure project progress on schedule and within budget.
- Aid subordinates in maintaining production on budget and schedule.
- Review project estimates and plans to determine schedule, estimated job cost, procedures, staffing requirements, equipment needs, and resource allocation.
- Anticipate project needs with sufficient lead-time to prevent delays.
- Establish work plans and staffing for each phase of the project; work closely with Human Resources in recruitment efforts as necessary.
- Oversee coordination with project staff to outline work plans, assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority.
- Review status and modify schedules or plans as required, and prepare project reports for management, owners, and subcontractors.
- Follow up on directives to remain attentive to non-progressive situations and opportunities for improvement.
- Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and resolve problems.
- Coordinate the preparation and updating of the project construction schedule as required by the contract documents.
- Manage claims and documentation.
- Coordinate material purchases and equipment procurement.
- Maintain business relationships with contractors, clients, engineers, JV partners, and unions if applicable.
- Manage relationships with contracting and regulatory agencies, and executive management.
- Participate in project presentations to elected officials, the general public, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure project closeout by finalizing paperwork, obtaining retainages, supporting supervisors, and expediting claims.
- Debrief project completion to review positive and negative aspects.
- Negotiate matters related to cost, schedule, and contract matters with owners, subcontractors, or suppliers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent work experience.
- At least ten (10) years of related experience, including highway construction, concrete paving, and management.
- Knowledge and experience of standard specifications for entities such as the Florida Department of Transportation, Aviation Authorities, or Port Authorities.
- Understanding of federal, state, and local regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; preferred proficiencies include HeavyJob / HeavyBid and Primavera P6.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Goal-oriented with the ability to set and achieve goals.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to lead diverse teams and work well with people at all organizational levels.
- Organizational ability, planning, prioritizing, organizing, and monitoring activities and projects.
- Able to work well in a group environment and foster a team approach.
- Experience working with Gomaco and/or Wirtgen slip form paving trains, including belt placer spreaders, concrete pavers, texture/cure machines, and central mix concrete batch plants.
- Frequent travel throughout Florida is required.
