About the role
As a Trauma Process Improvement Coordinator RN, you'll work with the Manager of Trauma Programs and the Trauma Medical Director to create a Trauma Process Improvement Program. You'll ensure the trauma program meets local regulations and accreditation standards, track patient care issues, and develop, implement, and evaluate processes and education improvements for trauma patient care. You'll also integrate trauma PI strategies with broader hospital or system PI strategies, update Trauma Department Dashboards, and coordinate outreach education programs.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a Trauma Process Improvement Program
- Ensure compliance with local regulations and accreditation standards
- Track and resolve patient care issues in trauma process improvement
- Develop, implement, and evaluate trauma patient care processes and education improvements
- Integrate trauma registry data into trauma PI process
- Update Trauma Department Dashboards and review PI project results
- Create trauma education programs following new trauma care guidelines and based on research and evidence
- Provide trauma education in the Emergency Department
- Celebrate and coordinate outreach education programs like ATLS, ATCN, and TNCC
- Participate in community and hospital outreach programs
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- (ACLS) Advanced Cardiac and Life Support and (BLS) Basic Life Support certification within 30 days
- Within 12 months of hire, complete the Trauma Outcome Performance Improvement Course
- (PALS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification in 30 days or (ENPC) Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course in 180 days from hire date
- Either Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses or the Trauma Nurse Core Course should be completed within 180 days of hiring
- 3 years RN experience; 1 year of recent ICU or ER experience in a Trauma Level 1 or 2 hospital
Qualifications
- Familiarity with trauma process improvement, its terms, and standards
- Awareness and proficiency in established standards and procedures relating to nursing and patient care
- Insight into laws, rules, regulations, standards, protocols, and policies governing nursing care in your assigned department
- Understanding of medical terms and promotion of health, management of diseases, and prevention of illness
- Knowledge of medications, their effects, dosages, and side effects
- Understanding of professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights
Skills
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to analyze data and identify trends
- Proficiency in trauma registry software
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
