About the role

Responsibilities include the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for patients and their families in a safe environment. Functions as an Expert nurse (Benner, Novice to Expert Nursing Theory) within the competency checklist of the assigned unit. Accountable for effective leadership and direction to the nursing care team to ensure patients' comfort, safety, and personal care.

Must be able to perform jobs in all patient care and operational areas, subject to reasonable accommodations, and employ all mandatory safety devices and procedures. Must participate in the Respiratory Protection Program, which may include wearing a respirator that requires a clean-shaven face. This is a union position.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients and their families
  • Provide expert nursing care within the assigned unit’s competency checklist
  • Lead and direct the nursing care team to ensure patient comfort, safety, and personal care
  • Perform duties in all patient care and operational areas, adhering to safety protocols
  • Participate in the Respiratory Protection Program as required
  • Demonstrate clinical competencies, including EKG rhythm interpretation, within the probationary period

Requirements

  • Current California Registered Nurse License
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through AHA
  • Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification

Qualifications

  • Education required to qualify for licensure as a registered nurse; BSN preferred
  • Additional specialty training as judged by the Chief Nursing Officer
  • 12 months of experience within the last three years in the specialty area to qualify as an RN IV
  • Minimum of one year as an RN III with demonstrated expanded competencies consistent with specialty training and experience

Unit-Specific Requirements

  • Medical-Surgical, Orthopedic, Telemetry Units: Must have and maintain national certification in medical-surgical or critical care nursing. Classification as RN IV remains only as long as expanded competencies are demonstrated.
  • Surgery & Emergency Department: Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certificate through AHA required.

0.3 FTE (12-hour shift), Nights
