RN – Pediatric Emergency Department

About the Role

Join Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital, a proud Magnet Hospital awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, recognized for excellence in professional nursing practice. Work in the Pediatric Emergency Department, which provides specialized pediatric care in a child-friendly environment. The department is staffed 24/7 with board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians and nurses certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and pediatric trauma care. Features include a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) unit for children who are victims of assault, abuse, or neglect, and Child Life Specialists who help reduce anxiety for children and families.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patients’ conditions.
• Evaluate, update, and revise plans of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
• Educate patients and families with culturally appropriate materials.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing protocol.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN, or BSN program).
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
• Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC - pediatric) upon hire or within 24 months of beginning work in the Emergency Department.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross within one year of hire.
• One year of current acute care RN experience OR military RN experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• ICU or critical care experience.
• Pediatric experience.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Physical Requirements

• Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

Pay range for new hires: $35.50 – $55.60 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. The pay range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package.

Schedule

Night shift: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m., with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements.
