Registered Nurse(RN) - Pediatric Emergency Department

Location: Fayetteville, North Carolina – Pediatric Emergency Department at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center

About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and implements professional nursing care for patients in accordance with hospital policies and assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patients and identifies patient care needs
• Uses patient assessment information to organize appropriate patient care
• Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates patient care
• Facilitates a safe environment
• Maintains required competencies
• Functions as charge nurse as assigned
• Maintains an accurate and relevant record of patient care
• Administers medication as ordered by physician
• Recognizes life-threatening situations and responds appropriately
• Establishes collaborative interdisciplinary relationships with other Health System staff and medical staff
• Monitors the quality of care based on pre-established outcome-oriented indicators
• Actively participates in cost containment and assists in accurate charging for patient services
• Adjusts care based upon age-specific physiological and psychosocial needs of patients
• Supports patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of medical regimen
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing (required)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred)
• Current licensure in North Carolina as a Registered Nurse or Compact state licensure
• 3-4 years of related clinical experience (preferred)
• Pediatric experience (preferred)

Unit Description

The Pediatric Emergency Department at the main hospital is a 41-private bed unit assessing pediatric patients on a trauma level III unit. Patients include all children aged 0-17 and young adults through 30 years of age with a patient ratio of 1:4.

The care team consists of Registered Nurses, a Clinical Educator, Licensed Practical Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Unit Secretary, Resource Nurses, Pediatric Physicians, Physician’s Assistants, Case Managers, Physical Therapists, Dieticians, Occupational and Speech Therapists, and Charge Nurses. New Graduate Nurses are accepted and welcome.

• Respiratory Complaints (RSV, pneumonia)
• Sepsis
• Syncope, near syncope
• Post-op complaints
• Ear Infections
• Appendicitis
• Trauma-related injuries
• Lacerations
• Procedural Sedations
• Child Abuse and Sexual Assaults
• Strep throat & Tonsillitis
• Abdominal pain

Physical Requirements

• Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
• Visual acuity for observation of patients
• Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting
• May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
