About the role

Martin South Hospital’s Emergency Department has multi-disciplinary care teams and leading-edge technology needed to diagnose and treat patients efficiently and effectively, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As an RN, you will deliver exceptional care throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed. This is a fast-paced environment that will allow you to advance your nursing skills each day. Here, you will also have the opportunity to gain additional certifications and move into other positions such as Team Lead or other nursing leadership roles.

A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patients’ conditions.
  • Evaluate, update, and revise plan of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
  • Educate patients and family with educational materials considering cultural issues and other special concerns.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatment in accordance with approved nursing protocol.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN, or BSN program).
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS American Red Cross certification upon hire or within one year of beginning work in the Emergency Department.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within one year of beginning work in the Emergency Department.
  • One year of current acute care RN experience and/or Emergency Department experience OR licensed military RN experience.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC - adult) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC - pediatric) upon hire or within 24 months of beginning work in the Emergency Department.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Physical Requirements

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
