Essential Job Functions
- Aids in fulfilling Syringa Hospital & Clinics mission by providing and coordinating quality healthcare services for all OB-related needs.
- Coordinates hospital OB visits and communicates OB care with clinics and providers.
- Maintains up-to-date policies and procedures related to OB services.
- Collaborates with the quality assurance team to ensure goals and objectives are met.
- Participates in PI projects and data collection, including development and review of internal quality measures.
- Communicates OB-related issues, needs, and outcomes to the Clinical Nurse Manager and/or Chief Nursing Officer.
- Identifies staff training/educational needs and establishes learning priorities for OB nursing personnel.
- Serves as a mentor/preceptor and resource for OB nursing staff.
- Encourages and fosters OB nursing staff participation in continuing education activities.
- Organizes or provides in-services, learning materials, skills fairs, computer training, bulletin boards, and ongoing training to ensure OB staff can perform procedures, stay informed, and adapt to new technologies.
- Analyzes OB patient care and system operations data for trends and causative factors.
- Performs OB chart audits to ensure quality documentation.
- Uses data to drive decisions and plan/implement performance improvement strategies related to OB care management.
- Fosters the implementation of evidence-based practice to improve OB client care.
- Assists in monitoring OB patient satisfaction and communicates feedback to staff.
- Performs clinical rounds on OB patients to observe staff performance and participate in physician and other discipline conferences.
- Participates in continuing quality improvement initiatives, in-service education programs, unit meetings, and committee functions as assigned.
- Assists in OB employee performance evaluations based on personal observations and interactions.
- Serves as a professional role model and OB resource person, providing guidance and support.
- Promotes clear communication among the OB care team and treating clinicians.
- Evaluates OB clinical care, utilization of OB resources, and development of new OB clinical tools, forms, and procedures as needed.
- Serves as the first step in the chain-of-command for hospital OB.
- Sets and submits monthly reports of all OB activities and participant numbers to the Chief Nursing Officer for submission to the hospital board of directors.
- Participates and collaborates in shared governance programs to develop, plan, and implement nursing education and increase staff competency.
- Participates actively in site-specific and system work groups, task forces, committees, etc., contributing OB expertise.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or associate degree in nursing from an ACEN or CCNE accredited school.
- Current Idaho Board of Nursing license.
- Two years of experience in a hospital-based healthcare setting with three years of OB-specific experience in Labor and Delivery and post-partum care.
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP certification required.
