About the role

Join Baylor Scott and White Medical Center - Irving as a Registered Nurse in our NICU, a fast-paced environment that includes high acuity patients. This role offers night shifts (7p-7a), three nights a week. Our NICU leadership team fosters an environment that supports learning, mentoring, and professional growth.

• Patient Population: Care for newborns greater than 32 weeks gestation on bubble CPAP, lines, medications, admissions, discharges, etc.
• Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:3
• Number of Beds: 10
• Department Specifics: Level II NICU, self-scheduling, Neonatologist on call 24/7, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in-house 24/7

Responsibilities

• Oversee patient care using a professional practice model, including patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating care plans, and evaluating patient responses.
• Secure patient travel and address patient needs in healthcare.
• Help patients prevent issues and follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
• Delegate tasks based on patient condition and team competencies.
• Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
• Create, implement, and evaluate care plans, adjusting as needed to reach desired outcomes.
• Build therapeutic relationships with patients and families, managing discomfort and maintaining professionalism.
• Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members to empower them with knowledge for better healthcare choices.
• Assess and document learning needs regularly.
• Collaborate with colleagues and the community to create care plans.
• Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
• Use problem-solving strategies with patients, families, and staff, recognizing limitations and prioritizing safety, effectiveness, and efficiency.
• Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, commit to growth, and contribute to peers' development.
• Demonstrate a commitment to community service.

Requirements

• 2 years of RN experience in NICU nursing
• Graduate of an Accredited Nursing Program
• RN - Registered Nurse license
• BLS - Basic Life Support certification (required within 30 days of hire)

Skills

• Deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, procedures, and laws.
• Knowledge of hospital procedures and rules.
• Proficiency in medical terminology, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common medications, and their side effects.
• Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Positive social skills to interact with a diverse range of individuals.
• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking capabilities.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
