Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains patient care, including diet and physical activities.
- Communicates with physicians, co-workers, and patients about changes in condition.
- Prepares patients for examinations and treatments.
- Performs a head-to-toe assessment and reassesses patients as needed.
- Adequately assesses and manages pain, educates patients and families, and interprets test results.
- Administers medications safely and performs IV and central line care.
- Monitors cardiac activity and performs CPR.
- Formulates and modifies patient care plans, evaluates outcomes, and involves patients/families in care.
- Keeps abreast of nursing techniques and maintains expertise.
- Works flexibly and under stress, assists in emergency procedures, and maintains good communication.
- Ensures documentation, including H&P, consent forms, and medication administration.
- Manages supplies and equipment economically and educates staff on performance improvement.
- Trains unit staff and participates in interdisciplinary care.
Charge Nurse Responsibilities
- Updates census table, completes classification forms, verifies temperature logs.
- Oversees staff, follows admission protocols, activates call teams, and handles emergencies.
- Communicates with the Med Surg Director, supervises dietary services, follows consults and orders, and manages patient transfers.
- Responsible for room assignments, assists with admits and discharges, and ensures smooth patient care.

Professional Requirements
- Maintains dress code and completes annual education requirements.
- Maintains regulatory requirements and patient confidentiality.

- Adheres to organizational policies regarding ethical business practices and promotes professional growth.
- Assists in patient care and demonstrates adaptability to processes.
Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Certification Requirements
- Eight (8) hours of education specific to the Program scope annually.
- Adaptability to processes, collaboration, compliance, communication, and exceptional customer service.
- Orientation and education requirements within 90 days of hire or job description signing.
Regulatory Requirements
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
- Current state Registered Nurse Licensure.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- PALS certification recommended.
Skills

- Basic computer knowledge.
