RN ICU Days
Location: Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Plano – Full-Time Days, 3/12 hr. shifts
About the Role
Join a 32-bed Intensive Care Unit that serves a mixed adult medical/surgical population with a strong neurological focus. As a Comprehensive Stroke Center, we offer a wide range of interventions, including microvascular recovery services for breast-cancer reconstruction patients—a service unique to Plano. Our intensivist-led unit, opened in 2004, provides bedside surgical procedures and maintains a 1:2 patient-to-nurse ratio. The environment fosters dynamic learning, mentoring, and teamwork, with an open-door policy from management and administration.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
- Create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans, adjusting as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
- Build therapeutic relationships with patients and families, managing discomfort and maintaining professionalism.
- Educate patients, families, nurses, and the community to empower informed healthcare decisions.
- Assess and document learning needs regularly, collaborating with colleagues to develop comprehensive care plans.
- Delegate tasks appropriately based on team competencies and follow up promptly.
- Use problem-solving strategies to address challenges with patients, families, and staff.
- Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in care delivery.
- Work collaboratively to achieve goals, contribute to peer development, and demonstrate commitment to community service.
- Adhere to the Texas Nursing Practice Act and professional practice standards.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Minimum of 2 years of ICU RN experience.
- Active RN license in Texas.
- BLS certification (must obtain within 30 days of hire if not already certified).
Skills
- Deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, procedures, and regulations.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, including health, disease prevention, management, and common medications/side effects.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for diverse interactions.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, electronic medical documentation, scheduling, and payroll systems.
- Commitment to medical ethics, patient privacy, and professional nursing standards.
