Intensive Care Unit – a fast-paced, high-acuity environment that includes Medical, Surgical, Trauma, Neuro, and Cardiac patients. Patient ratio is 1:2 across 20 beds. Department features Level II Trauma designation, Primary Stroke Center, thrombectomy capability, 24/7 Intensivist coverage, strong physician-surgeon collaboration, unit-based councils, and pathways for advanced education (Nurse Practitioner, CRNA, etc.). Responsibilities
- Oversee patient care using a professional practice model
- Perform patient assessments, recognize health issues, create and evaluate care plans, and assess patient responses
- Secure patient travel and address patient needs in healthcare
- Help patients and prevent issues in accordance with the Texas Nursing Practice Act
- Delegate tasks based on patient condition and team competencies
- Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs
- Develop, implement, and evaluate care plans; adjust plans to achieve desired outcomes
- Build therapeutic relationships with patients and families, manage discomfort, and maintain professionalism
- Create care plans reflecting patient values to aid in resolving issues
- Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members to empower informed healthcare choices
- Assess and document learning needs regularly
- Collaborate with colleagues and community to create care plans
- Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly
- Use problem-solving strategies with patients, families, and staff
- Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care
- Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, commit to growth, and support peers’ development
- Demonstrate commitment to community service
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Active RN license
- BLS certification (must obtain within 30 days of hire if not already certified)
- 1 year of recent ICU experience
Skills
- Deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, procedures, and laws
- Knowledge of hospital procedures and rules
- Proficiency in medical terminology, health, disease prevention, management, common medications, and side effects
- Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Positive social skills for interacting with diverse parties
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking capabilities
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, email)
$5,000 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates.
Shift: Full-time Days, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM.
